In On the Waterfront, it’s when Terry Malloy (Marlon Brando), beaten and bloody from his fight with the union boss , climbs up from the docks and leads the people back to work.

In Goonies, it’s when Mikey and the gang, after defeating the Fratellis, save their homes from demolition with One-eyed Willie’s treasure.

These moments in the world of story structure are know as the “Return with the Elixir.” After a life threatening, soul-transforming journey, the hero returns home (in life or death) victorious. Armed with a new understanding or outlook, maybe even a physical treasure, this new-found glory brings healing to all.

Elixir. There is no better name for a publication that honors the effort and work of our alumni and friends in the film industry. As we highlight and celebrate the great work being done, we hope that you are inspired, invigorated, and we hope that you get involved.
